Experimental guitar institution Glenn Branca has composed a new piece to honor David Bowie, and he'll be performing it at a special Bowie tribute show in NYC. The piece is called "The Light (For David)," and he'll premiere it at Roulette on October 8.

Branca and Bowie were mutual admirers for most of their respective careers, and they actually collaborated once on an audio-visual installation with artist Tony Oursler in Berlin. Branca wrote about Bowie for Roulette's program:

David Bowie was our hero. Intelligent, talented and with the desire to create a really new different rock…When he died, I was shocked like everybody else….I hadn’t realized how much he meant to me throughout most of my life. I think somehow knowing he was here, was like having a muse.

Tickets for the show are on sale now. It will also feature a performance of Branca's recent piece The Third Ascension in a revised form.
