Glorietta

Matthew Vasquez forms supergroup Glorietta; LP & tour announced

Matthew Logan Vasquez fronts Delta Spirit and leads an active solo career, and he’s also no stranger to supergroups. Having already formed Middle Brother with Deer Tick’s John McCauley and Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith years ago, Matthew Logan Vasquez is now also one sixth of a new musical collective called Glorietta. Joining MLV in this band is Phoebe Bridgers collaborator Noah Gundersen, Wild Child’s Kelsey Wilson, David Ramirez, Jason Robert Blum, and Grupo Fantasma/Brownout’s Adrian Quesada. They’re releasing a self-titled album on August 24 via Nine Mile Records, and the album also features a pretty famous guest, Nathaniel Rateliff, who lent vocals to “I Know.”

So far, two tracks are out from the album: “Golden Lonesome” and “Heatstroke.” As you may expect from a project from this lineup, both are roots rockers, but both are also considerably different. “Golden Lonesome” is a swaying, country-ish ballad, while “Heatstroke” is upbeat and driving and it’s fueled by a poppy synth line that shakes things up a bit. Listen to both below.

Glorietta are also touring, starting with the Songwriters on the Beach series in Belmar, NJ on 7/26, then Newport Folk Fest, then an intimate pre-release show at NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall on 7/30 (tickets).

They’ve also got a fall run, including a larger NYC show on October 18 at Music Hall of Williamsburg (tickets). All dates are listed below.
