God Is An Astronaut tell us what they're listening to ahead of tour (which starts tonight)

Irish post-rockers God Is An Astronaut are beginning their North American tour at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg TONIGHT (9/12) with Queens post-rockers The American Dollar opening (tickets), and after that they have other East Coast dates with The American Dollar, West Coast dates with This Patch of Sky, and more.

Ahead of the tour, we asked guitarist Torsten Kinsella what music he’s been listening to lately, and he sent a list of six songs, including both The American Dollar and This Patch of Sky, as well as Mono, Girl Band, Holy Fawn, and Jo Quail. See Torsten’s full list, with commentary on each pick, below.

WHAT GOD IS AN ASTRONAUT ARE LISTENING TO

Girl Band – “Shoulderblades”

Girl Band are an Irish noise rock, post punk band from Dublin. I love the chaos they create, there is an insanity to that speaks to me. Their latest single is called “Shoulderblades.”

Jo Quail – “Salamander”

Jo Quail is an internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist from London, UK. She recently played with us in London and truly is an excellent performer. The music is very cinematic.

Holy Fawn – “Arrows”

Holy Fawn is an Arizona-based shoegaze/ doomgaze Group with nice melodies and good vocals.

The American Dollar – “The Slow Wait”

They are an ambient, electronic duo from New York. They make gorgeous dreamy ambient music. They will be special guests for our shows in NY, PA and D.C

This Patch of Sky – “Bella Muerte”

They are a Post Rock Group from Oregon. They make some really emotive and evocative music. They play with us in San Francisco, LA and Phoenix.

Mono – “After You Comes the Flood”

Mono really need no introduction, they are from Japan and their music can be beautiful and sometimes extremely intense.
