Gojira and Converge played Brooklyn Steel (pics, videos, setlists)

Gojira have been doing tons of touring this year in continued support of last year’s Magma. On Thursday night (9/28), they stopped at Brooklyn Steel for a one-off with Converge, who have also been busy this year and whose first album in five years, The Dusk In Us, drops on 11/3 via Epitaph. Converge played a few off the upcoming LP (and “I Can Tell You About Pain” b-side “Eve”), plus a nice amount of 2009’s Axe To Fall and 2012’s All We Love We Leave Behind, and they ended with the classic “Concubine.”

Gojira split things up pretty well too, with half of Magma, plenty of oldies, some improv jamming (with drummer Mario Duplantier and vocalist/guitarist Joe Duplantier switching instruments), and some covers in the encore. They did a medley of three songs by Metallica (who they toured with earlier this year), “Enter Sandman,” “Sad But True,” and “Seek & Destroy,” and ended their set with a cover of Sepultura’s “Territory.” Setlists and videos of both bands below. Pictures are in the gallery above.

Converge will bring their tour back to NYC for two sold-out Saint Vitus shows in December. Frontman J Bannon is also curating Roadburn 2018 and Converge will play two sets at that festival, one with 2004’s You Fail Me played in full and one with the new album played in full. Bannon also brings his Wear Your Wounds project to Saint Vitus on Saturday (10/7), which is part of WYW’s first US tour. The latest single off The Dusk In Us is “Reptilian” (which they opened with at Brooklyn Steel) and you can stream that below.
