Jam band fans already have four nights of Phish at MSG to get excited about this New Year's, and now Gov't Mule have announced a two-night stand at the Beacon Theatre too. They play 12/30 and New Year's Eve.

At last year's NYE show at the same venue, The Mule did three sets, one of Grateful Dead songs, one of Allman Brothers songs, and one of The Band songs. No word yet on if they have something special like that planned for this year. Tickets go on sale October 19 at noon with a presale starting October 12 at noon.

Gov't Mule leader Warren Haynes was actually just in NYC over the weekend, joining his former Allman Bros bandmate Derek Trucks at the Tedeschi Trucks Band show at the Beacon on Friday (10/7). Here are some videos:

Speaking of Grateful Dead family members and surprise jam-band appearances in NYC on Friday night, Joe Russo's Almost Dead just did a Brooklyn Bowl run, and they brought out Dead & Company's John Mayer for their second set and encore on Friday (which isn't the most intimate NYC show John Mayer has played this month). If you're into that sorta thing, you can watch them playing "Touch of Grey":
