Green Child (Total Control/Grass Widow) contribute song to new late night / ambient comp (listen)
Australian indie label Chapter Music is releasing a new compilation of late night/downbeat/ambient music titled Midnight Meditations that is “designed to help listeners through long dark nights of the soul.” The album, which is out this Friday (7/3), includes songs from The Twerps‘ Alex McFarlane, Dick Diver‘s Rupert Edwards, Chapter Music founder Guy Blackman, Scott & Charlene’s Wedding‘s Ela Stiles, and more. The artwork is by Riley Jones from The Goon Sax.
We’re got the premiere of the soft, slow and sax-fueled “Rats on the Roof” by The Green Child which is Mikey Young (Total Control, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, etc) and Raven Mahon of Grass Widow. “The instrumentation for this song was concocted by Mikey a while ago and underwent 16 different versions of vocal melodies and lyrics,” the band say. “Over the course of a year or so we churned it around in the house, reworking and rerecording it and having some friends come over and add their two cents. In the end, the theme remained loosely about conflict; inner, outer and in the domain of pro-wrestling and rat scuffles.”
