Long Island indie/punk band GreenSleep were initially around in the early/mid '90s before splitting up after releasing just one album, 1995's self-titled LP, and some EPs. They did a few one-off reunions over the years, and in 2014 they officially got back together. They've done a few more EPs, and now they're releasing their first album since 1995, Cheap Headphones. It drops this May via Dead Broke Rekerds.
The band, whose lineup now includes Scott Martin (of Silent Majority/Mind Over Matter), are still rooted in their '90s style, but they sound fresh. We're premiering the title track, which is a highly spirited dose of emotional, melodic punk. If you never got into these guys but you like Samiam, Knapsack, or Jawbreaker, you should give this a spin.
GreenSleep are opening for their LI pals Iron Chic (whose Mike Bruno runs Dead Broke Rekerds) TONIGHT (3/24) at Union Pool in Brooklyn. That's sold out.
GreenSleep and Iron Chic also both play Long Island's second-annual Wild Fest, which benefits the family of the late Iron Chic guitarist Rob McAllister. That goes down May 26 & 27 at Amityville Music Hall and the lineup also includes James DeWees (Get Up Kids, Reggie and the Full Effect), Timeshares, Explosivo, Doc Hopper, Too Many Voices, Notches, Celebrity Roast, Carcosa, Jukai, Warm Needles, Somerset Thrower, Adult Magic, Buckshot Facelift, Old Ironsides, Hangman, Outlive Death and Slugworth. Tickets (single-day passes and two-day passes) are on sale now. Flyer and day-by-day lineups below.
