Grim Reaper

Grim Reaper releasing first LP since 1987, 'Walking in the Shadows' (song stream)

One of the lesser-expected ’80s-metal comebacks of late is Grim Reaper. The NWOBHMers put out three great albums in the ’80s and then called it quits for decades. Now, frontman Steve Grimmett is leading a new version of the band, and they’ve finally announced their first album since 1987. They started talking about it in 2014, and earlier this year they said it’d be called From Hell. It’s actually called Walking in the Shadows, and it officially comes out September 23 via Dissonance Productions. The title track is out now, and it sounds like it came straight out of the mid-’80s. It’s got all the soaring falsettos and wailing guitar leads you could ask for, and not a thing about it sounds modern. It’s fun. Listen:

As mentioned, the band is touring this year, including a NYC show on October 23 at the Marlin Room at Webster Hall with Psychoprism. Tickets for that show are still available.
