Grimes explains how to pronounce baby X Æ A-12 Musk’s name (which may not be legal in CA)
New mother Grimes has had a lot of explaining to do since giving birth to a baby boy on Monday night. Her boyfriend Elon Musk shared the baby's name, "X Æ A-12 Musk," which prompted a lot of questions. Grimes, who said she's still recovering from surgery, came online yesterday to explain the name's meaning, answering some of our questions... but not all. Chief among them was, how do you pronounce "X Æ A-12"?
Sharing her new Vogue Italia cover on Instagram, as you can see above, Grimes explained in the comments, "It's just X, like the letter X. Then A.I. Like how you said the letter A then I." She also said the A, which references both an aircraft and her favorite song, Archangel, is a reference to the Burial song.
Meanwhile, a California official told TMZ that X Æ A-12 isn't even a legal name in the state. According to the official, no numbers or symbols can be included in the name printed on a birth certificate. Maybe baby X will wind up with multiple names? Stay tuned.
