Grouper announces new album 'Grid of Points,' shares "Parking Lot"

Grouper (aka Liz Harris) hasn’t released a full-length album since 2014’s excellent Ruins, but she hasn’t been completely quiet. She put out a very good two-song 7″ in 2016, and last summer she gifted the world with Ruins outtake “Children.” Now she is finally ready to release a new album, Grid of Points, on April 27 via Kranky. Here’s what Liz says about the album:

Grid Of Points is a set of songs for piano and voice. I wrote these songs over a week and a half; they stopped abruptly when I was interrupted by a high fever. Though brief, it is complete. The intimacy and abbreviation of this music allude to an essence that the songs lyrics speak more directly of. The space left after matter has departed, a stage after the characters have gone, the hollow of some central column, missing.

For all the experimental tendencies that Grouper often has, sometimes she never sounds better with just piano and voice, and lead single “Parking Lot” is a very nice reminder of that. It’s a gorgeous song, and one that should make you very excited that a new Grouper album is finally coming out. Listen and check out the artwork and tracklist below.

Grouper also has some upcoming live shows, including Hundred Waters’ festival FORM Arcosanti, and the Deerhoof-curated edition of Sled Island. All dates are listed below.
