Guided by Voices have announced Mirrored Aztec which will be out August 21 via Rockathon Records. It is the band's 30th studio album which is a massive milestone, while still begging the question "I thought there were more?" (This makes 107 albums under Robert Pollard's belt, including GbV, solo records and side projects). Talking to Rolling Stone, Pollard vaguely describes Mirrored Aztec as “an upbeat, bright pop album (it’s still weird).” At this point Guided by Voices only sound like themselves, and you can check out the riffy "Haircut Sphinx," and read Pollard's handwritten lyrics,  below.

For those who have been missing Guided by Voices beer-fueled marathon live shows, they've just announced a livestream concert from Dayton, OH on Friday, July 17 at 5 PM Eastern. The band will perform a full electric show from an empty venue "with a top-notch audio / video crew," and promise "No acoustic guitars in pajamas in the living room!" Shots fired. The band also note it's BYOB and that 20% of of each $20 ticket purchased will got to "numerous US indie venues, some of whom they’ve worked with for over 25 years...to help them keep afloat during these tough financial times." Tickets are on sale.

In other Guided by Voices internet news, you may recall the band launched the Hot Freaks digital subscription service where, for $100 a year, "a weekly email will deliver sneak previews of brand new songs, plus rarities, never-before-heard tracks, demos, live concert recordings, rare photos and videos, recording secrets, exclusive swag offers, and many more surprises from deep within the Guided By Voices vaults." Learn more and subscribe at GbV's website.

Mirrored Aztec is Guided by Voices' second album of 2020, having released Surrender Your Poppy Field back in February, and will reissue 1995's Alien Lanes for its 25th anniversary on the same day the new album is out.
