HEATHERS

'Heathers' being turned into a TV series

The 1989 pitch-black cult classic Heathers is being turned into a TV anthology series (working much like Fargo, new characters every season, theoretically) that will air on cable network TV Land. Jason Micallef, who wrote quirky indie comedy Butter, wrote pilot and while the cast hasn’t been announced, the network reveals that the “Heathers” this time won’t be quite the same. From The Hollywood Reporter:

It features a new set of popular-yet-evil Heathers — only this time the outcasts have become high school royalty. Heather McNamara (originally played by Lisanne Falk) is a black lesbian; Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty) is a male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is Heath; and Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) has a body like Martha Dumptruck.

This will mark the third attempt to bring Heathers to the small screen, once in 2009 and then another in 2012, neither of which made it to air.
