Hellhammer offshoot Triumph of Death made live debut, planning possible live EP

As mentioned, Tom G Warrior is finally revisiting the music of his pre-Celtic Frost band Hellhammer with his new Triumph of Death project. The band — whose lineup also includes Mia Wallace, Alessandro Commerio, and André Mathieu (Michael Zech was initially a member but had to leave due to “scheduling conflicts”) — marks the first time that Warrior has dedicated entire sets to Hellhammer material. The band initially only existed for two years from 1982 to 1984, and Warrior only rarely performed Hellhammer material with his other projects.

The first show they announced was France’s Hellfest, which they play today (6/21), but first they did two warm-up shows in Germany this past Wednesday (6/19) and Thursday (6/20). Going by fan-shot videos from the warm-up shows, they sound pretty great. Check out a bunch of videos and the setlist from last night below, and if Triumph of Death are playing a festival you’re going to, don’t miss ’em.

After Hellfest, they have more European festival dates this summer and fall, and so far they have just one US date: the very stacked Psycho Las Vegas festival. All remaining dates are listed below.

Triumph of Death wrote on Facebook that “the group intended to play two further concerts in the US around Psycho Las Vegas, in New York and Los Angeles, but the festival insisted on the exclusivity clause and therfore rendered this idea impossible,” but fingers crossed that they’ll play more US shows next year. They already revealed that “further festival and concert appearances are to follow throughout 2019 and 2020,” and in more exciting news, they say that “several of the concerts will be recorded for a possible release of selected songs on a live EP.” Fingers crossed for more US shows, and for that EP to in fact happen!

In related news, Mia Wallace recently joined Abbath, who have an anticipated new album coming out in July.
