Waxahatchee were in NYC to open for Jawbreaker in February, then main member Katie Crutchfield returned to join Superchunk on stage earlier in April, and then the band returned again over the weekend for two shows on their headlining tour with Hurray for the Riff Raff and Bedouine. That great triple bill, who were all supporting great 2017 albums, hit Warsaw on Friday (4/13) and Murmrr Theatre on Saturday (4/14). We caught the Saturday show.

Bedouine opened with a solo set (which included an Elton John cover), and though the audience hadn’t fully filled in yet for her set, everyone who was there was hushed and respectful. Hurray for the Riff Raff played a new song (based on a Langston Hughes poem) called “Kids Who’ll Die” for “kids worldwide who are afraid and who are suffering. And we need to change the course of history for them.” Otherwise she stuck to mostly the same set she’s been playing for the last year or so (including her cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark”), and she was captivating as ever.

Waxahatchee came on a little late and apologized for doing so, but made up for it with a typically great set that included a lot of her new album, plus some old favorites and even a song by her Great Thunder project in the encore.

Pictures of all three artists are in the gallery above. Setlists for Waaxahatchee and HFTRR are below. Waxahatchee also have tour dates with Courtney Barnett this year.
