Honey ready debut LP, share "Monk" video, playing free show w/ Cian Nugent & NYC dates w/ The Men & OBN IIIs

honey love is hard

Brooklyn trio Honey have been kicking around for a couple years now, making blistering psych-tinged rock n’ roll that wouldn’t have been out of place in early-’70s Detroit. The group, which features ex-members of Amen Dunes and Psychic Ills, are set to release their debut album Love is Hard on May 6 via via Wharf Cat Records. (That’s the cover art above.) The first single is “Monk,” a stomping freakout that’s catchy, too, and you can stream it below.

The song’s video, shot at Williamsburg DIY spot Wild Kingdom, was directed by Frank Haines and stars his Blanko & Noiry conspirator (and NYC outsider art legend/chanteur) Chris Kachulis. What exactly is going on here is unclear but involves a rock show, gypsies, voodoo/pagan rituals, and general punk debauchery. Watch that below as well.

Honey have a few shows coming up, including one tonight (4/13) at Max Fish with Cian Nugent and Viruuunga, which is free. They’ll also play April 24 at Wild Kingdom with OBN IIIs (who are on tour), and Barbed Wire; and last but not least a Love Is Hard release party at Alphaville on May 6 with The MenJJ Doll, and Foster Care (tickets).
