Hooton Tennis Club

Liverpool's Hooton Tennis Club's debut album, Highest Point In Cliff Town will be out next week (8/28) in North America and is a fun mix of shambolic influences: part Pavement, part Pastels. Check out a couple tracks from it below.

The album's standout cut is "P.O.W.E.R.F.U.L P.I.E.R.R.E." and easily the most fun song by a British band to involve a spelled chorus since Pulp's "F.E.E.L.I.N.G. C.A.L.L.E.D. L.O.V.E." The band have just released a video for it, made by animator Alden Volney, that is an homage to the cheapo '60s Saturday morning cartoons à la Hanna-Barbera or Filmation. Starring Leopold the Fox and his nemesis Furious Jacques, it starts off in familiar territory, but when their slapstick chase across repeating backgrounds hits a cathedral, thing get deeply, deeply psychedelic. (This never happened to Top Cat.) Watch it till the end, below.

We hear Hooton Tennis Club will be here for CMJ. While no announcement on that has been made yet, they will be touring the UK this fall as well and those dates are listed below.
