Hop Along streaming new album 'Painted Shut' (listen)

Hop Along have already shared three songs off their upcoming Painted Shut (due 5/5 via Saddle Creek), and now the whole thing is here a week early. As those singles hinted, this new album builds on its excellent predecessor, 2012’s Get Disowned, adding in classic rock-style guitar solos (thanks to recently-added guitarist Joe Reinhart) and bigger production (thanks to Sonic Youth/Dinosaur Jr producer John Agnello) to their already-sharp sound. At the forefront of it all though, is Frances Quinlan, one of the most distinct singers and lyricists in indie rock right now. It’s been a great year for powerful, unpolished indie rock albums (thanks to Title Fight, Waxahatchee, Speedy Ortiz, and still more), and Painted Shut is no exception. Listen in full below, via Spin.

Hop Along’s tour has them in NYC soon for two shows with Thin Lips, May 5 at Rough Trade also with Crying (tickets) and May 10 at Baby’s All RIght (tickets).
