House of Vans BK 2017 free shows (Descendents, Digable Planets, Royal Headache, more)

Like they do every spring/summer, Brooklyn’s House of Vans is throwing a series of free shows and the 2017 lineup has been announced. This year, there’s a series in Chicago as well.

The Brooklyn shows kick off on May 18 with reunited rap greats Digable Planets and support from rising Chicago rapper Joey Purp. RSVP for that one opens Monday (5/8) at 9 AM. That’s actually one of TWO free Brooklyn shows that Digable Planets are playing this year. The other is a SummerStage show in Coffey Park on June 21.

On June 1, it’s indie pop band Beach Fossils, another rising Chicago rapper, Saba, and Nyck @ Knight, the collaborative project of Pro Era members Nyck Caution and Kirk Knight. RSVP opens 5/22 at 9 AM.

Keeping things genre-diverse, June 7 has indie rockers The Drums with underground NYC rapper Princess Nokia. RSVP opens 5/22 at 9 AM.

On July 12, it’s a pretty awesome punk show with Australian rippers Royal Headache, Philly’s classic rock-inspired Sheer Mag, and the political, sax-fueled Downtown Boys. RSVP opens 6/26 at 9 AM.

Wrapping things up for the Brooklyn series is punk legends Descendents with special guests on August 3. RSVP opens 7/25 at 9 AM.

Descendents also play NJ’s Starland Ballroom show in December. Listen to their new song:

The Chicago shows include reunited emo vets Cap’n Jazz (with Hop Along); the killer punk band Dillinger Four, whose shows are few and far between (and who also play Brooklyn in June), with The Lawrence Arms and Toys That Kill; and more. Full lineup on the poster above. Chicago RSVPS are HERE.
