Bad Brains were recently nominated for but not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and vocalist H.R. is subject of a new biography and documentary. H.R. also played a NYC show at Bowery Electric over the holidays (12/29), and pictures of that show are in the gallery above.

Kingsound opened the show, and they were also H.R.'s backing band. They were great, especially the lead guitarist Zeke. Then it was Skarroneros, a fairly sloppy and cheesy ska band. They were followed by H.R.'s former backing band, Dubb Agents, who played a strong set with Ramones covers and more. They were joined for the last few songs of their set by Treasure Don (of Lee "Scratch" Perry collaborators Subatomic Sound System). Then finally it was H.R. backed by Kingsound. While Kingsound’s set was good, they really shone backing HR. HR certainly doesn’t have the energy or the insanity of his youth but his voice is still there and the band killed.
