Huntsmen releasing ‘Mandala of Fear,’ touring (stream “Ride Out”)
Chicago's Huntsmen will follow their very good 2018 debut album American Scrap with new album Mandala of Fear on March 13 via Prosthetic (pre-order), and going by lead single "Ride Out," Huntsmen are making good on the promise of their debut and still moving forward too. Aimee Bueno, who sang guest vocals on the final track of American Scrap, is now a full time member, and her presence is felt just as much on the new single as vocalist/guitarist Chris Kang's. Across its five-minute running time, "Ride Out" touches on everything from Yes-like vocal harmonies to Mastodon/High On Fire-style sludge to a folk rock tinge that fills the void left by the underrated and sorely-missed SubRosa, and even that description doesn't fully do this seamlessly genre-defying song justice. It's a truly wild song that should appeal to metalheads and regular rock fans alike, and you can check out its animated video (made by Seth Whitehurst of Shadow Puppet Horror Theatre) below.
The album was produced by the great Sanford Parker, and Huntsmen also have tour dates coming up, including the Chicago stop of the Om/Wovenhand tour, a run with Snow Burial, and the London and NYC editions of Desertfest, plus more dates TBA. All currently announced dates are listed below.
