Hurray for the Riff Raff announce new LP & tour with Ron Gallo, share video
Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) will follow 2014’s great Small Town Heroes with The Navigator on March 10 via ATO. That last album was in the alt-country realm, but The Navigator‘s lead single “Rican Beach” is quite a departure from that. It’s a soulful, polyrhythmic jam that nears Latin rock territory and is clearly very politically charged. Alynda says this about the new album:
This is dedicated to the water protectors of Standing Rock – thank you for your bravery and giving us hope. Also, to the people of Peñuelas, Puerto Rico, who are demanding an end to the AES dumping of coal ash which leads to water contamination – we are with you.
All over the world there are heroes, who, despite suffering generations of oppression, are protecting the land and the future of our humanity. Rican Beach is a fictional place, but it was written with my ancestors in mind. It’s time to call on yours and to always remember: this land was made for you and me.
Alyndra is supporting the album on a lengthy tour with Ron Gallo in 2017. The tour hits NYC on 4/20 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (12/9) at 10 AM with a Spotify presale starting Tuesday (12/6) at 10 AM and an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (12/7) at noon.
