IDLES remix UK band Sex Swing for new EP (listen)

London’s Sex Swing have been making dark, dissonant and ferocious music since 2014, and released their second album, Type II, back in May. It’s an intense guttural blast of pitch-black psychedelia and you can stream it below. The band are gearing up to release a remix EP, titled Passovers, featuring remixes by METZ, Jane Weaver, Brian Case, and more. The first single from that is a remix of Type II‘s opening cut, “The Passover,” by Mark Bowen of IDLES. He dials back the noise just a bit and ups the rhythmic elements for a groovier, if still very heavy, vibe.

“One of the things I like about them is that they combine harsh, caustic, anxiety inducing sounds with some sick head bopping grooves,” says Bowen. “You’re screaming on horror but tapping your feet. The new album has really distilled this idea down. With the remix I wanted to separate those two parts out and bring them to the fore. Hence the drone-y horror-show intro with the krauty-groovy second half, always striving to maintain that sense of unease, like it’s all going to fall apart at any moment.”

The remix premieres in this post and you can stream it, and check out the EP cover art and tracklist, below.
