IDLES share "Mercedes Marxist," announce fall dates with Preoccupations

IDLES have a new single, “Mercedes Marxist,” which is a song that came from the same sessions as last year’s Joy As an Act of Resistance. “‘Mercedes Marxist’ was a strange beast for us, after ‘Rottweiler,’ it was the first song we wrote for Joy as an Act of Resistance,” says frontman Joe Talbot. “I was pissed off at what I was and where I was: I was sofa surfing on the weekends and spending the weeks looking after my mum. My life balance was way off and this song reflects just how useless I felt. It was me at my worst and without any buoyancy it became catharsis. It was the last splurge from Brutalism so we omitted it. I like it now.” The single will be out as a 7″ on August 2 but you can listen now below.

The band are on tour now in North America, and play a sold-out show with Fontaines D.C. at NYC’s Brooklyn Steel on Friday (5/10). They’ve just announced more tour dates, including a fall run with Preoccupations that includes another NYC show on October 17 at Terminal 5. (Fall dates are around their appearance at ACL 2019.) Tickets for the T5 show go on sale Friday, May 10 at 10 AM with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (5/8) at 10 AM.
