kimmy vs the revered

interactive 'Kimmy Schmidt' movie out today on Netflix

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt had its series finale last year, but she’s back for one more story, and this time viewers play a hand in how it turns out. Like Black Mirror‘s “Bandersnatch” episode, Kimmy Vs The Reverend is an “choose your own adventure” interactive movie where at various points along the way you must decide which way the story will go. (At one point it’s a literal fork in the road.) There is a basic plot: “Kimmy’s getting married, but first she has to foil the Reverend’s evil plot. It’s your move: What should she do next?”

The reverend is Jon Hamm‘s cult leader Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne; Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is the prince Kimmy’s supposed to marry. The regular players — Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, Carol Kane, Amy Sedaris, Fred Armisen (as Robert Durst), Lauren Adams — are all back too, plus appearances from Chris Parnell, Jack McBrayer, Johnny Knoxville, Bowen Yang, and more. Creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock co-wrote the movie with Sam Means and Meredith Scardino. Like “Bandersnatch,” you can probably kill a day trying to follow every path though Kimmy won’t likely leave you with as much a feeling of existential dread. It’s streaming now on Netflix and you can get a taste via the the trailer below.

Meanwhile, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock have a new comedy series, Mr Mayor, which will air (hopefully?) this fall on NBC and stars Ted Danson as a wealthy businessman who runs for mayor of Los Angeles for all the wrong reasons and then must decide what to do when he actually gets elected.
