Islands have just simultaneously released two new albums Taste and Should I Remain Here At Sea?, each of which has its own distinct sound with the former providing synthy electronic music and the latter more direct rock.
Frontman Nick Thorburn visited Colombia in February to act in a movie and while he was there he had friend Sebastian Grainger of Death From Above 1979 shoot a video for Islands’ single “The Weekend” on his iPhone. The video features Nick exploring Bogota and dancing in the streets of Santa Marta. At the video’s start, there’s a split second where Nick is seen watching David Bowie’s brief cameo in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me in what is most likely an easter-egg reference to his appearance in a film.
Islands kicked off their North American tour in support of the new releases in Montreal last night (5/19). They’re on an East Coast leg right now with indie rapper Lushlife opening, and Honus Honus (of Man Man) will open the West Coast dates.
The tour hits NYC’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg on Saturday (5/21) and in addition to Lushlife, it has Canadian indie rock supergroup TUNS (members of Sloan, Super Friendz & The Inbreds) opening (that’s pretty exciting). Tickets for that show are still on sale.
