Teamarrr and Issa Rae

Issa Rae partners w/ Atlantic Records for Raedio imprint; first release is TeaMarrr's "Kinda Love"

Actress, writer, and producer Issa Rae has already proven herself to be a respected curator for music discovery, evidenced by the soundtracks of her HBO series Insecure (which has featured music from Jazmine Sullivan, SZA, City Girls, and more), and now she’s taking this role even further with her new imprint on Atlantic Records, punningly titled Raedio. According to Issa, the new imprint was a logical next step for her career. “Music has always been an essential part of every project I do and working with emerging talent is a personal passion,” she said in a press release. “Raedio allows me to continue that work within the music industry and audio entertainment space. The Atlantic Records team are innovators in terms of shifting and shaping culture. I’m excited to join forces with them to discover new artists.”

Raedio’s first release is “Kinda Love” by Hatian-American singer TeaMarrr, who a press release refers to as the label’s flagship artist, and whose sense of humor makes her a good fit with the brains behind Insecure. The song comes with an entertaining video featuring Issa herself, along with comedian Jessie Woo. TeaMarr says, “If you’re in a lovey-dovey vibe put on ‘Kinda Love.’ If you’re angry at your ex and don’t understand why he couldn’t have done the one thing you asked him to, I definitely have a song for that too. Think of me as the sonic doctor prescribing music as medicine to help you heal.” Watch the video below.

In related news, Issa has partnered with Google, lending her voice to Google Assistant devices for select commands. Google Home users can optionally select her voice for a limited time, and you can head here to learn more and watch a commercial for that below.
