Itasca touring, playing 2 NYC shows -- one with Ducktails, one with Daniel Bachman (dates, song streams)

Itasca (aka LA-via-NY songwriter Kayla Cohen) has been making bare bones folk albums for a few years now, most recently releasing Unmoored By The Wind last year via New Images. Kayla’s minimal instrumentation and lightly-psychedelic touches recall late ’60s / early ’70s cult folk singers like Sibylle Baier and Vashti Bunyan, whose resurgence has inspired a handful of contemporary artists (Angel Olsen, Jessica Pratt, Marissa Nadler, etc). Itasca does that sound justice, as you can hear by streaming two songs from Unmoored By The Wind below.
Itasca has several tour dates coming up between this week and early August, including two stops in NYC. One of those is this month with guitar great Daniel Bachman at Union Pool on May 24. That show is also with Ignatz and Sarah Louise, and admission is $12 at the door (no advance tickets). Then this summer she returns to the road as an opener on Ducktails‘ tour, including the NYC show happening August 7 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for that show are currently on AmEx presale, and the general on-sale begins Friday (5/8) at noon.
