it's a Pink Floyd NYC takeover with David Gilmour shows, a "special guest" event, Brit Floyd & more

David Gilmour

As a lifelong Pink Floyd fanatic who once boasted one of the USA’s largest Pink Floyd and Pink Floyd-related memorabilia collections before having to sell it off piece by piece on eBay because of rent/cost of living, I’m pretty chuffed to remind anyone reading this that from Friday April 8 through Tuesday April 12 New York City will play host to an insane amount of Pink Floyd-related events.

On Friday April 8 at The Beacon Theater world renowned Pink Floyd covers act Brit Floyd will touch down for a festival of light and sound celebrating the Pink Floyd catalogue. This show, which is part of a massive 76-date US tour, will thrill audiences with an extended career-spanning setlist that will include a performance of Pink Floyd’s 24-minute epic “Echoes.” Their million dollar stage design should interact quite beautifully with the Beacon Theatre’s famously gorgeous interiors. A smattering of tickets are still available. Remaining tour dates are below.

On Saturday April 9the Ace Hotel’s Liberty Hall will play host to literary event Damian Barr’s Literary Salon. Damian Barr’s Literary Salon has it’s roots in London where Barr would essentially chat with emerging and established writers in front of an intimate gathering of people. This, his first Salon in NYC, will feature British novelists Jonathan Lee and Polly Samson as well as a surprise guest. Polly is there to commemorate the launch of the paperback version of her book The Kindness. Both Polly and Jonathan will do short readings, have discussions with Barr, and take questions from the audience. After a brief intermission, there will be a final surprise guest. What you may not realize is that Polly is David Gilmour‘s wife and the primary lyricist behind Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell and The Endless River as well as Gilmour’s solo efforts On and Island and his recent release Rattle That Lock. And David has three gigs in NYC the three nights following this literary event. Anyways I wonder who the surprise guest could be. The show is currently sold out, but more seats will be released on Saturday at noon.

Finally, on Sunday April 10 at Radio City Music Hall the great David Gilmour begins his three-night Rattle That Lock NYC run in earnest. The show is painfully sold out and has been since the day it went on sale but if you have the patience do keep checking ticketmaster as they have a tendency to release random seats as a show date draws near. On Klausmas Monday April 11 and Tuesday April 12 Gilmour will take over the much larger Madison Square Garden. A handful of tickets have just been released to each show, so if you got shut out during the initial onsale that quickly sold out now may be your chance to hit pay dirt.

For a taste of what to expect, Gilmour recently performed “Rattle That Lock” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Check that out below.
