Ivan Julian

Ivan Julian diagnosed with cancer; Richard Hell, Debbie Harry, Lenny Kaye, The Dictators & more playing a benefit

Ivan Julian

The sad news came earlier this year that former Richard Hell & the Voidoids guitarist Ivan Julian was diagnosed with cancer. As reported by his label Plowboy Records (who are donating 100% of the proceeds from Ivan’s band The Fauntleroys to his medical bills):

Almost immediately after writing and recording The Fauntleroys new single, “Wait For Me” b/w “All The Way Down (In The City Of Angels)”, Ivan was diagnosed with cancer. The prognosis looks good for Ivan, but for the next 6 months or more, flexibility to do his work will be greatly diminished, which means a direct impact on his income. Those of you working musicians out there know that the music world is a month to month gamble at best, without benefits like disability, paid sick leave found in other professions.

A benefit concert has now been set up to raise money for Ivan. It happens on May 4 at City Winery NYC with his former bandleader Richard Hell, fellow New York punk icons Debbie Harry, Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith Group) and The Dictators NYC, plus Mott the Hoople’s Ian Hunter, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid, post-punk vets Bush Tetras, and more.

Tickets are on sale now. You can also donate to Ivan via his GoFundMe campaign.

Check out the full City Winery lineup below and listen to the classic Voidoids jam “Blank Generation.”
