Kendrick Lamar is currently on The DAMN. Tour, and he had a big surprise in store at last night’s (7/26) Detroit stop. As XXL points out, K. Dot brought out J. Cole, whose own ongoing arena tour was on an off-night. Cole played “Deja Vu,” “No Role Models,” and “A Tale of 2 Citiez.” Watch videos below.

Kendrick and Cole first collaborated on Kendrick’s 2011 debut album Section.80, and they’ve been talking about a collaborative release for years, but so far nothing’s come of it.

Kendrick’s tour was in Brooklyn for two Barclays Center shows last week (we posted pictures and a review of night one). He returns to the NYC-area for a show at Newark’s Prudential Center on August 25 with YG and D.R.A.M. (tickets). Updated dates are listed below.

Cole’s tour, which has killer direct support from Anderson .Paak, picks back up Friday (7/28) and Saturday (7/29) in Toronto. It then lands in Brooklyn for two shows at Barclays Center (Aug 1 & 2), followed by a night at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum (8/5) (tickets). Updated dates are listed below.

In addition to Paak, Cole’s tour has support from three artists on his Dreamville label, Bas, J.I.D, and Ari Lennox. Atlanta’s J.I.D., who also played Pro Era’s Steez Day in NYC earlier this month, has been picking up some buzz this year for his debut album The Never Story. Cole produced a few tracks and rising Atlanta R&B singer 6LACK is on one too. You can watch a video from it and stream the whole album below.

Cole, J.I.D, and Ari Lennox also play Philly’s Made In America Labor Day Weekend. Anderson .Paak plays Brooklyn’s Afropunk Festival in August.

In other J Cole news, he was spotted in the studio with Royce Da 5’9″ while he was in Detroit as well.
