Jake Ewald releasing Slaughter Beach, Dog EP & touring, discusses Modern Baseball's future

While Modern Baseball remain on hiatus, co-frontman Jake Ewald is staying busy with his solo project Slaughter Beach, Dog. He released his debut full-length Welcome last year and he’ll follow it with the Motorcycle.jpg EP on July 14 via Lame-O Records. The lead single is “Building the Ark,” which isn’t too far removed from Modern Baseball’s folky side. It’s good stuff and you can hear it below. Jake has a new full-length coming this fall too.

Jake will be taking Slaughter Beach, Dog on tour in August, and Modern Baseball’s Ian Farmer (who recorded the upcoming SBD full-length) is playing bass in his live band. Opening is the talented Shannen Moser, who’s giving her album Oh My Heart a vinyl release on Lame-O next week (6/16).

The run with Shannen Moser includes a Brooklyn show on August 5 at Baby’s All Right (tickets).

Jake also plays an afternoon solo show at Baby’s this Saturday (6/10), as part of the Terrorbird Northside day party. The show goes from noon to 5 PM and also features Active Bird Community, Casper Skulls, Partner, and PONY (tickets).

Shannen is also on the Sorority Noise tour, which hits Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday (6/15) with Forth Wanderers and The Obsessives (tickets). All upcoming dates for both Slaughter Beach, Dog and Shannen Moser are listed below.

As for the future of Modern Baseball, Jake told The FADER:

The next time the four of us wake up and really want to do this again, like we want to go have band practice, then we’ll fucking do it. We’ll do it that day. That’s how it was in the beginning; we all loved doing it, and wanted to do it every day. Then we got to the point where we didn’t want to do it any day, and that was a confusing feeling. We just said, let’s not call it a breakup and make a huge deal about it and have a “Last Show Ever” or anything like that. Let’s just take it easy for now, and if we wake up an want to do it again, then let’s do it.
