Jamie Lidell & The Royal Pharaohs played Lincoln Center's American Songbook series (pics)

British born Nashville transplant Jamie Lidell‘s latest album Building a Beginning was released in October last year and found the soul singer in fine form.  Lidell was in even finer form as he fronted the Royal Pharaohs for an ‘American Songbook’ show at Lincoln Center on February 17. Lidell was gracious and grateful to perform in the Appel Room overlooking Columbus Circle. Pictures from the show are in the gallery above.

Jamie strode into the crowd several times during his set to meet his fans while giving the Pharaohs (vocalist Shonka Dukureh, Brian Girley on saxophone, Marion “OJ” Ross with horns, Marcus Machado on guitar, Gerald Jenkins on keyboards, Owen Biddle on bass and Daru Jones on drums) some time to jam out on their own as he stood watching appreciatively. The 90-minute set dipped briefly into the 10 o’clock hour — usually the series’ hard curfew — and few felt Lidell should stop, as many in the crowd were on their feet dancing to the funky rhythms. Setlist from the show is below.
