Sierra Leonean musician Ahmed Janka Nabay has died at age 54. His label, confirmed the sad news with Pitchfork. Janka was the "Bubu King," having helped shine a light on bubu music, a traditional style which he updated with electronics. Nabay fled Sierra Leone for America, settling in Brooklyn around the start of this decade. Following two EPs on True Panther Sounds, Janka released two albums for Luaka Bop, including 2017 Build Music.

Rest in peace, Janka. You will be missed, but your music lives on. Listen to some of it below.
