Jarvis Cocker has named his five favourite films as part of a new Instagram series, Sion's Cinema, launched by Kim Sion, an art director who also happens to be Jarvis' partner. "My Significant Other had the great idea of asking friends to recommend five favourite films to help while away the hours whilst we’re all stuck indoors," notes Jarvis. "Guess who got asked to go first?" He adds "I’ll bet you’ve seen some (if not all) of them before - but never under these circumstances. Stay safe." Check out his picks -- all titles are rentable through Amazon, iTunes, etc -- with commentary, below.

Meanwhile, Jarvis will release Beyond the Pale, his first new album in over a decade on May 1, which is with his new band JARV IS... The band are currently scheduled to play Brooklyn's Elsewhere on May 14, whether that will still happen given the coronavirus state of the world remains to be seen. You can watch the video for his new single, "House Music All Night Long," below.

We've got some TV suggestions to get you through self-quarantine, too.

JARVIS COCKER'S FIVE FAVORITE FILMS

KES

I guess this is an obvious one but wouldn’t we all like to fly free like a kestrel with its jesses off at the moment?

--

WILLY WONKA & the CHOCOLATE FACTORY

It’s pretty difficult to be in a bad mood whilst watching this film. Gene Wilder’s first appearance is a moment of pure movie magic.

--

BATMAN RETURNS

The Penguin’s Gotham City is frighteningly similar to Tr*mp’s America. Listen out for a v good version of “U Can’t Touch This” at an arty party.

--

GLASTONBURY FAYRE

I was so looking forward to playing at Glastonbury’s 50th birthday this year. This Nic Roeg film from 1971 can help us get over the disappointment of the cancellation.
(Glastonbury Fayre is included with Amazon Prime)

THE LEOPARD

“If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change.” - thus says Burt Lancaster towards the end of Visconti’s masterpiece. Wise words.

Happy viewing! Let Kim know your thoughts on my selection. Stay safe x Jarvis.
