Jay Som Anak Ko

Jay Som announces new album & tour, shares "Superbike"

We named Jay Som one of the best new-ish artists of 2017 off the strength of her first proper album for Polyvinyl, Everybody Works, which saw her mastering a handful of different indie rock subgenres and blending them seamlessly. Last year she released a collaborative EP with Justus Proffit, and now she is finally set to release her proper sophomore album. It’s called Anak Ko (meaning “my child” in Filipino), and like with her debut, main Jay Som member Melina Duterte recorded, produced, engineered and mixed this album herself at home (though now her home is in LA). She also brought in Vagabon’s Laetitia Tamko, Chastity Belt’s Annie Truscott, Justus Proffit, and Boy Scouts’ Taylor Vick to contribute, as well as live Jay Som members Zachary Elasser, Oliver Pinnell and Dylan Allard. The album drops August 23 via Polyvinyl (pre-order).

The lead single is “Superbike,” a very nice dose of shoegazy dream pop that Melina describes as the combo of “Cocteau Twins and Alanis Morissette,” which should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from this lovely song. Listen and watch the lyric video below.

Jay Som has also announced a lengthy international tour, with support on all North American dates from Boy Scouts and additional support on leg one from Affectionately and on leg two from Gia Margaret.

The run with Gia Margaret and Boy Scouts hits Brooklyn’s Elsewhere Hall on October 25. Tickets for that show (and all North American dates) go on sale Friday (6/7) at 10 AM local time with an artist presale underway right now. PASSWORD = ANAKKO. All dates are listed below.
