Pianist and jazz legend McCoy Tyner has died at age 81. The sad news came via his official instagram account:
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of jazz legend, Alfred “McCoy” Tyner.
McCoy was an inspired musician who devoted his life to his art, his family and his spirituality.
McCoy Tyner’s music and legacy will continue to inspire fans and future talent for generations to come.
Tyner was probably best known for his work with John Coltrane as part of his classic early-'60s quartet, but also played with Sonny Rollins, Stanley Clarke, Wayne Shorter, and more. His influence as a pianist and musician is hard to overstate.
