Jenny Lewis/Erika Forster/Tennessee Thomas supergroup NAF (aka Nice As Fuck) played a sold-out Rough Trade show last night (7/31) ahead of their two bigger Bowery Ballroom shows tonight (8/1). Instead of using the stage, the band set up on the floor as they’ve been known to do, making Rough Trade feel even more intimate. As soon as the band came out running to the Jem theme song, the energy in the room completely rose.

Given how they only have one album, they played the whole thing in order, starting with "Runaway." Jenny quickly took the intimate setting even further, getting pretty up-close-and-personal with several fans in the crowd. She used the whole space to sing and shout in everyone’s faces, and dance with a few crowd members too. The band did take a second to talk about how much dating sucks in NYC before singing their ghosting ode, "Cookie Lips."

Even though this album has only been out for a bit more than a month, fans who went to this show sang along to every song and toted Nice As Fuck shirts and army jackets, the band’s stage uniform. I'd been a massive Jenny Lewis fan for almost a decade, but never got to see her until now. While I wish I could've seen Rilo Kiley, I also liked getting the chance to see Jenny play with an all-female band. Seeing her genuinely have fun with her bandmates with a palpable bond and playing a set full of girl power is indeed nice as fuck.

Chances With Wolves opened with a DJ set. Pictures are in the gallery above.

Again, NAF have two shows tonight at Bowery Ballroom. The first one is sold out, but tickets are still available for their late show. They also added a couple California shows with Ryan Adams since we last spoke. Updated tour dates are listed, along with the setlist, below.
