Jenny Toomey has a great indie rock CV — she cofounded influential label Simple Machines Records (which led to writing a guide on how to do it yourself), and has played in such bands as Tsunami, Grenadine and Liquorice. But it’s been 12 years since she made any new music. (She’s been busy as an activist working for the Ford Foundation.) But she’s contributed vocals to a new single by Human Hearts, the current project of her old friend Franklin Bruno of Nothing Painted Blue (Toomey has also done an album of all Bruno songs, and recorded “Keeping the Weekends Free” with Liquorice). The single is due out next week (11/7) via WIAIWYA’s singles club. The A-side, “Loyal Oppostion,” is jazzy with lush strings (shades of early Everything but the Girl), and the B-side, “Distracted,” is bouncy indiepop. Jenny, glad to have you back.

You can catch Human Hearts (sans Jenny) in NYC at Bowery Electric on December 1 w/ The Scene Is Now and Heroes of Toolik.

You can stream “Distracted” below…
