JFK, LGA & Newark flights (to SXSW) cancelled due to blizzard
Winter Storm Stella is approaching the tri-state area and promising to bring a lot of snow with it; just how much varies by weather report, but most reports are calling for a foot of snow, if not more. NYC public schools have already been closed for Tuesday. Airports, too, are starting to cancel flights by the hundreds. American Airlines has already cancelled all operations from LGA and JFK on 3/14.

The other major airlines are likely to follow suit.
For many of us, Tuesday is the day we travel down to Austin for SXSW. It’s usually a crazy travel day, with thousands of people all heading towards the beginning of the music portion of the festival. Full, expensive flights and delays are the norm on a day with nice weather. Is anyone considering an alternate form of transportation?
Do I cancel my flights now and drive tf to sxsw

UPDATE:
And in a twisted turn of events Julie Byrne and I will be driving 24 hours to Austin to make it to sxsw

LIZZO was among those affected:
Half of my band got stuck in a snowstorm so we had to! But ALL the rest of my shows are ON AND POPPIN! #sxsw https://t.co/G2ffPaj8Jr

MEANWHILE, it also works both ways. Who is stuck in Austin?

We’re keeping track of cancelled and postponed shows in NYC today, too.
UPDATE 3/14: The blizzard warning for today has now been cancelled, and previous snowfall estimates have been downgraded. It’s still looking pretty nasty outside, though, with snow, sleet, and even hail falling, and above ground subway service is suspended (as well as Metro North trains as of noon, and NJ Transit buses) The situation at area airports is also looking pretty grim, with over 60% of outgoing flights from LGA, JFK, and EWR cancelled.
Due to forecasted winter weather we’ve issued a travel waiver. Details here: https://t.co/g0h6FlIsRx on cities/dates that might be impacted.

Good news if you’re getting stir crazy: as of 6 PM, above ground subway service and limited Metro North service will resume.
