Jimmy Glenn, owner of iconic Times Square bar Jimmy's Corner, has died from COVID-19
A South Carolina native, Glenn opened the bar just off Broadway on W. 44th St in 1971 after years as a boxing cornerman for the likes of Bobby Cassidy, Ralph Correa, Terrance AlIi and Mark McPherson, and operating a gym where Muhammad Ali trained. A photo of Glenn with Ali, seen above, is among the boxing memorabilia that decorates every inch of Jimmy’s Corner. There’s also a still from Raging Bull, which filmed there.
There’s not much left of the old Times Square anymore but Jimmy’s Corner has remained a great place if you’re in the area — maybe to see a Broadway show or a concert at Radio City Music Hall — to get cheap drink, soak in the vintage atmosphere and peruse all those amazing photos.
Rest in peace, Jimmy.
