Former The Posies and Sunny Day Real Estate bassist Joe Skyward, aka Joe Bass, has sadly passed away after a two-year long battle with cancer. He was 57. The Posies released a statement on their Facebook page saying:

Joe Skyward, aka Joe Bass, left us last night. He had been fighting cancer for the last 2 years. Positive to the end, he went surrounded by friends and family. We had many great years with Joe and loved him very much. We still do. Rest in peace, rest in space, rest in bass. Here pictured onstage with the Posies in Spain in 2014. We will miss you Joe.

Joe played with The Posies for two albums, Amazing Disgrace and Success, and rejoined them in 2013 until he was diagnosed with cancer. After Success, he formed part of Sunny Day Real Estate for their 1998 reunion tour How It Feels To Be Something On. Upon the end of the tour, he moved on to play bass in former band member Jeremy Enigk's solo albums World Waits and The Missing Link.

Rest in peace, Joe Bass.
