Joe Strummer is best known for his years in iconic punk band The Clash, but he made lots of great music before and after. A new compilation, titled Joe Strummer 001, collects a lot of that, including some rare and unreleased material, which will be out September 28 via Ignition Records. It includes his pre-Clash band the 101ers, songs he did for Alex Cox films Sid & Nancy and Walker, other soundtrack work like A Permanent Record (which starred The Beastie Boys' Adam Horovitz) and I Hired a Contract Killer, as well as songs from his 1989 solo album Earthquake Weather and his work with The Mescaleros.

There's also an entire disc of unreleased tracks, including: an early demo of Clash song "This Is England" (maybe the only good song on Cut the Crap) titled "Czechoslovak Song/Where Is England"; a solo demo of "Letsagetabitarockin" recorded in Elgin Avenue in 1975; outtakes from Sid & Nancy featuring Mick Jones and unreleased song "Rose Of Erin"; the "biographical and mythical" recording "The Cool Impossible," and "London Is Burning," one of the last songs Joe recorded. You can listen to "London is Burning" -- which is not The Clash's "London's Burning" and got reworked as Mescaleros song "Burning Streets" for 2003's Streetcore (which was finished after his untimely death) -- below.

Joe Strummer 001 is available for preorder as a double-CD, deluxe CD and vinyl sets with a 64 page hardbound book, as well as a super-deluxe box set that contains the deluxe vinyl & CD plus:
