Johann Johannsson readies new LP 'Orphee' (listen), touring North America in October

Fresh off Academy Award nominations for his scoring work on 2014’s The Theory of Everything and 2015’s Sicaro, Icelandic electronic artist and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has announced his first new solo album in six years, titled Orphée and due out September 16. Characterized by Jóhannsson as “an oblique reflection on personal change,” the record is his debut release on German label Deutsche Grammophon, and will explore themes of death, rebirth, and memory inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus and the work of French director Jean Cocteau. Ahead of the album’s release, Jóhannsson has released a stunning video for Orphée‘s opening track “Flight From The City.” Check it out below, along with the album’s tracklist and artwork.

Jóhannsson has also announced a tour behind the album, kicking things off this Fall with a string of North American dates, including an NYC show at Brooklyn’s Cathedral of St. Joseph on October 23 before heading to Europe. Tickets are on sale now.
