John Cale doing Q&A at "The Velvet Underground Experience" exhibit (which opens next week)

The Velvet Underground Experience opens week in NYC and they’ve been lining up special events for opening week. One of those is with actual VU member John Cale who will participate in a Q&A on October 11 at 5 PM. That event is first-come, first-served and is included with admission to the exhibitions.

On opening day (Wednesday, October 10), French industrial designer matali crasset will host a special walk-and-talk through The Velvet Underground Experience where she will “share her inspiration for the interior design of the exhibition and how she infused the band’s influence and spirit into the space.” That is also at 5 PM, first-come first-served, and included with admission.

Then on Saturday (10/13) at Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall is the special Feelies show where they’ll play an all-Velvet-Underground set (plus other songs). “The Velvet Underground were a touchstone for Bill [Million] and I when we first started playing together, so we have a deep connection to their music,” says Feelies frontman Glenn Mercer. “They were inspiring on many levels because their music covered many different styles. It was truly a special honor to get the opportunity to actually play Velvet Underground songs with Lou on several occasions and to let him know how deeply the music touched me.” Tickets for that show are still available.

The Velvet Underground Experience runs October 10 – December 30 and features photographs, portraits, films, videos, live concerts, a VR experience, and musical workshops. Look for more special events to be announced. Tickets are on sale.

Both Glenn Mercer and Bill Million created TIDAL playlists of their favorite Velvet Underground songs, as did The National, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Robyn Hitchcock, and more. Stream the Feelies’ playlists below.
