John Cameron Mitchell bringing "Songs and Stories of Hedwig" to NYC for Pride 2019
John Cameron Mitchell recently toured Australia with “The Origin of Love: Songs and Stories of Hedwig,” a cabaret-style show where he sings songs and shares stories from his much-loved musical Hedwig & The Angry Inch (which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year). Next year he’ll bring this show to NYC for a special 50th Pride Celebration event at Town Hall on June 29. Hedwig co-creator Stephen Trask will participate at this as well. Tickets are currently on Town Hall member presale and go on sale to the general public on September 25.
In other news, John Cameron Mitchell is working on a new podcast, titled Anthem, which will pair a storyteller with a songwriter for a musical. The first season is subtitled “Homunculus” and will be written by Mitchell and Bryan Weller. Appearing alongside Mitchell on the 10 30-minute episodes of the first season will be Cynthia Erivo, Patti LuPone, Glenn Close, Denis O’Hare, James Monroe Iglehart, Nakhane, Laurie Anderson, Simone, Christopher Hanke, Ben Foster, Madeline Brewer, Justin Vivian Bond, and Bridget Everett. It’s set to debut later this year.
