John Carpenter has composed the score for the upcoming Blumhouse adaptation of Stephen King's Firestarter. (Preorder on splatter vinyl.) Composed with his current collaborators Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter, this marks the first score work they've done outside of the Halloween franchise. They've shared Firestarter's "End Titles" theme, which is creepy and ominous and instantly recognizable as a Carpenter creation. Listen below.

The Firestarter Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be out Friday, May 13, which is the same day the movie premieres in theaters and on the Peacock streaming app. Physical copies of the album will be out October 14 via Sacred Bones, and you can preorder it on limited edition yellow and bone splatter vinyl now.

Firestarter was first adapted into a movie in 1984 and starred a young Drew Barrymore as the child who could conjure flames with her mind. This new adaptation is from Blumhouse and stars Ryan Kiera Armstrong as firestarter Charlie, as well as Zac Efron, Sydney Lemmon, Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley and Gloria Reuben, and was directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil). Here's the synopsis:

For more than a decade, parents Andy (Zac Efron; Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile; The Greatest Showman) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon; Fear the Walking Dead, Succession) have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong; American Horror Story: Double Feature, The Tomorrow War) from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction.

Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family’s location, a mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes; Wild Indian, Rutherford Falls) is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.
