John Vanderslice has announced his first album in six years, titled The Cedars and out April 5 on Native Cat Recording. "I own a small piece of land in very rural West Sonoma and from the tippy top of this land you can see a strange, Mars-like serpentine canyon called The Cedars," John says of the album. "Roughly 11x11 square miles in size, it's a land-locked geological anomaly that has over a dozen endemic trees and plants. It's only 6 miles away but it takes up a mythic space in my mind, like the perfect sound, the perfect lyric. A lot of this record was written on this land, under the spell of this place." The first single from the album is "I'll Wait for You," a driving, moody number with all sorts of of interesting production/arrangement touches and John's signature direct lyrical style. The song also features Tortoise's John McEntire and you can listen, via Stereogum, below.

As mentioned, John will be on tour with Pedro the Lion, including a Brooklyn show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 10 (tickets). He's also playing SXSW. All dates are listed, along with The Cedars' album art and tracklist, below.
