John Zorn's haven for improvisational and experimental music, The Stone, is leaving its East Village locale of 13 years at the end of February 2018. Good news, The Stone will be relocating to The New School's College of Performing Arts beginning in March. It will operate five nights a week in the school's Glassbox Theater as "The Stone at The New School", presenting one show a night, with the same number of seats as the intimate East Village location of The Stone and the same $20 admission. In lead-up to that, The Stone has been hosting weekend residencies at The New School every Friday and Saturday night. This weekend (October 6 & 7) at The New School it's Cyro Baptista. The Stone's calendar has more shows and info.

Also this weekend, The NYU Skirball Center on 10/6 and 10/7 will host John Zorn: The Bagatelles, a "two-day marathon concert featuring over 45 of New York City’s most adventurous musicians performing over 100 different compositions from Zorn’s expansive new book of music, The Bagatelles." Zorn will play as part of The Bagatelles Quintet both nights, a combo which also features Dave Douglas (trumpet), Greg Cohen (bass), Calvin Weston (drums), and Slayer's Dave Lombardo (drums).

Also playing The Bagatelles are Ikue Mori, Marc Ribot, Craig Taborn, Mary Halvorson, Erik Friedlander, Sylvie Courvoisier & Mark Feldman, Chris Otto & Mark Feldman, and lots more. The daily Bagatelles lineups are listed below and tickets are on sale now -- use code "Vegan" for $20 tickets (a $30 per day discount!).

Back to The Stone, there are some notable residencies coming up, including Marc Ribot from November 7 - 10. Right after, Ikue Mori (whose list of past collaborators includes Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore), has a residency from November 14 - 19 and a New School weekend residency on December 15 & 16 -- both of those feature a "special guest." And in 2018 Ikue has a residency from December 12 - 15, which is immediately after guitar-slinger Thurston Moore's residency (December 5 - 8).

More upcoming 2018 residencies at The Stone: Ken Vandermark (January 2 - 7), Ryuichi Sakamoto (January 26 & 27 at The New School), a John Zorn Improv Week to close out the East Village location (February 20 - 25), Bill Frisell (August 22 - 25), Secret Chiefs 3 (Aug 29 - 31), and Marc Ribot (November 14 - 17). Check their calendar for lots more.
