Hans Zimmer brought his 36-piece orchestra and choir to Radio City music Hall for a second consecutive night. Zimmer shared that he had not been on the stage at Radio City Music Hall since the premiere of The Lion King in 1994. The audience were treated to some of his greatest works including True Romance, Crimson Tide and Gladiator. An extra special treat: Hans welcomed former Smiths guitarist and long-time collaborator Johnny Marr to the stage for a rendition of “The Thin Red Line” (which was recently been sampled into Alt J’s “Adeline”) and again for the Inception theme during the encore — video of that is below. (More connections: Johnny’s son, Nile, is the regular guitarist on Hans’ tour.) Lebo M, whose voice famously pronounced the beginning of The Lion King score (and Lily’s arrival into the Pritchard household in Modern Family) joined Hans on stage for a Lion King rendition.

Hans also told the story of what compelled him to write the song “Aurora” in the wake of the 2012 shooting tragedy in Aurora, CO, and he shared stories of his time on The Dark Night set marveling at Heath Ledger’s performance. Hans played for just under three hours, including a 15 minute intermission. Pictures from Hans’ second night at Radio City Music Hall are in the gallery above, and you can check out Night 1 pictures HERE.
