Ulfur

Jonsi / Olof Arnalds collaborator Ulfur preps solo LP (listen to "Vakandi")

Icelandic musician and composer Úlfur Hansson has made a name for himself over the last decade collaborating with Jónsi of Sigur Rós, Ólöf Arnalds, and Anna Von Hausswolff, and has had works commissioned by The Icelandic Symphonic Orchestra, the Kronos Quartet and l’Orchestre de Radio France. Now based out of NYC and going simply by Úlfur, he’s set to release new solo album Arborescence on November 3 via Shahzad Ismaily‘s figureight records (who put out the Aaron Roche record earlier this year). The record was produced by Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Marisa Nadler), and features Ismaily, Gyda Valtysdottir (múm), drummer Greg Fox (Liturgy), and Skúli Sverrisson (Blonde Redhead, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto).

If you are a fan of the musicians Úlfur has collaborated with in the past, you will probably be interested in the grand, cinematic sounds he makes on Arborescence. We’ve got the premiere of the dark, magisterial “Vakandi” and you can listen to that, along with another song off the album, below.
